The Palace on Wheels is one of the world's most
exciting luxurious journeys that offers a variety of sightseeing, desert
safaris along with cultural heritage of the places that you explore. The
palace on Wheels begins its journey from Delhi and takes you through
various historical and cultural cities such as Jaipur, Jaisalmer,
Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittaurgarh, Udaipur, Agra and Bharatpur. The
Palace-on-Wheels luxury train comprises of fourteen fully
air-conditioned deluxe saloons, which are equipped with world-class
amenities that enhance the pleasure of traveling. All the fourteen
coaches of the Palace on Wheels train have double-bedded cabins,
facilities of music, intercom, attached toilet, hot and cold water and a
shower.
Palace on Wheels Itinerary
Day 01: New Delhi, Wednesday Dep. 18.30 hrs.
The Palace on Wheels begins its journey at the Delhi Cantonment station
where the distinguished guests are accorded a warm, traditional welcome.
Day 2: Jaipur, Thursday, Arrival 02.00 hrs. Departure 19.30 hrs
On the second day of its journey, the Palace on Wheels stops at Jaipur.
Jaipur, popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital of Rajasthan
state. Jaipur is one of the heritage and cultural cities of India. The
sightseeing in Jaipur covers the Hawa Mahal, the Amber Fort (you will
ascend the fort on elephant back), Jantar Mantar (astronomical
observatory), Birla temple and the local bazaar to shop for jewellery,
handicrafts, carpets, blue pottery and textiles. You will be served with
dinner on Board the Palace on Wheels.
Day 3: Jaisalmer, Friday, Arrival 08.15 hrs. Departure 23.00 hrs
On the third day of its tour, the Palace on wheels stops at Jaisalmer.
Jaisalmer city lies in the heart of the Thar Desert. The yellow
sandstone Jaisalmer fort is an imposing sight. You will get to explore
the painstakingly latticed havelis or mansions with their grand facades.
The Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli are
some of the Havelis worth mentioning. You can also shop at Rajasthali,
the Rajasthan Govt. emporium for fine shawls, mirror work and
embroidered articles, wooden boxes, trinkets, silver jewellery and
curios. After lunch you will go for an exciting camel ride on the sand
dunes of Sam. In the evening you will enjoy dinner and cultural
programmes at Jaisalmer. After that the Palace on Wheels leaves for
Jodhpur.
Day 4: Jodhpur, Saturday, Arrival, 07.00 hrs. Departure15.30 hrs
Jodhpur is the next destination of the Palace on Wheels train. The
Jodhpur city is surrounded by a high stone wall with seven gates and
several bastions. The most important attraction of Jodhpur is the
Mehrangarh fort. Inside the Mehrangarh fort there are grand palaces such
as Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana.
Near the Mehrangarh fort complex lies Jaswant Thada, the royal cenotaph.
After lunch you will return to the Palace on Wheels.
Day 5: Sawai Madhopur, Sunday, Arrival 04.00 hrs. Departure 10.30
hrs
The Palace on Wheels stops at Sawai Madhopur. After breakfast you will
visit the Ranthambhor National Park, which is considered best for
observing and photographing the activities of the tiger. The Ranthambhor
National Park is spread over an area of 392 sq km and is home to more
than 300 species of birds. On return to the Palace on Wheels train, you
will leave for Chittorgarh.
Day 5: Chittaurgarh, Sunday, Arrival 16.00 hrs
You will have your lunch on board the Palace on Wheels and thereafter
you will reach Chittaurgarh. Chittorgarh presents an image chivalry,
valor; courage and the indomitable Rajput spirit. After exploring the
historical town of Chittorgarh the you will be driven to Udaipur.
Day 6: Udaipur, Monday, Departure 20.00 hrs from Chittaurgarh
The next destination is Udaipur, the Lake City. The sightseeing at
Udaipur covers the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace), the Jag Mandir, Lake
Pichhola, the City Palace, Saheliyon ki Bari. The luxury coach then
takes you back to the Palace on Wheels at Chittaurgarh.
Day 7: Bharatpur, Tuesday, Arrival 06.30hrs. Departure 11.45 hrs
Bharatpur is the next destination on the Palce on Wheels itinerary.
After breakfast you will explore the world famous Bharatpur bird
sanctuary, also known as the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, where you
will get to see the nesting place of thousands of Egrets, Siberian
Cranes, migratory Water Fowl and many other species of birds.
Day 7: Agra, Tuesday, Arrival 14.30 hrs Departure 23.00 hrs
It is time now to explore one of the most admirable destinations in
India. Yes, you guessed it right; it is Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal.
On your way to Agra you will make a brief stopover at Fatehpur Sikri,
the erstwhile capital of the Mughal rulers. After lunch you will arrive
at the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the WorldThe Taj Mahal was
built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
After exploring Agra, the Palace on Wheels heads for Delhi while you
have dinner on board the train. The Palace on Wheels arrives at Delhi
Cantonment at 6.00 hrs the next morning and you get down the train with
unforgettable memories.
